Scoop spectacular stories for social media. Encourage generous donors to give. Research controversial issues on the environment.
Those are just some of the activities lined up for a new wave of volunteers being recruited at A Rocha UK for its work in conservation and the environment.
MOBILISING PEOPLE
Specific roles being promoted by the charity are – a volunteer fundraiser to help support high value donor and legacy development, a researcher/PA to the Chief Executive Officer, and a social media co-ordinator.
‘We need someone to help boost our donations,’ said Fundraising Manager Sandi Filby. ‘That means someone with good people skills and a passion for mobilising resources behind our cause – someone who is proactive and with experience of fundraising generally.’
CEO Andy Atkins (pictured) is calling for a volunteer who can support him in his organisational strategy, speaking engagements and writing. There is a need for someone to also help craft a new social media strategy.
‘We could really use someone with a passion for engaging and mobilising people for a cause,’ said Andy, ‘someone with a good knowledge of using Twitter, Facebook – or other platforms.’
DIGGING EARTH
A Rocha UK has always been served well by faithful volunteers in all areas of its work – from digging the earth at Wolf Fields to speaking to groups of schoolchildren in West London. ‘People choose to help us for a variety of reasons,’ said Andy.
‘For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community,’ he explained. ‘For others it’s an opportunity to make a difference to the world around them. It’s also a chance to develop new skills and learn from our experienced staff. Volunteering with A Rocha UK is good for both the people concerned – and their planet.’
Potential volunteers can send an email to A Rocha UK, saying which role interests them, sharing the story of why they’re interested, and giving a contact address and phone number. (Photo shows Andy Atkins – far left – working at Wolf Fields with volunteers)
